Is He Really In The Small Daily Miracles?

The flight got diverted. Stuck and not knowing when I could get to my destination, my options were a rental car or an Uber. There were no rentals available at that time of the day so an Uber it was. After I logged in and ordered a ride, it took a significant amount of time before a driver responded.
The driver’s name was Mahmoud and he hailed from Southeast Asia. He told me 19 drivers before him refused my order because the destination was too far. He took it because he had learnt to accept and be happy with whatever came his way. He then told me of another occasion when 11 drivers ahead of him refused a ride because the fare was about $5. He took the order for the same reason. When he drove up to the passenger, it was on older gentleman who had never used the Uber app before. He had input the terminal where he was as both the pick-up spot and destination. He actually lived 40 miles away and it turned out to be a well-paying trip.
The story was a good segue way into a conversation about taking chances, miracles, faith, family, world politics, and the war in Gaza. He was a very eloquent and listening to him talk about life was a joy. His life and beliefs were informed by his Muslim faith and that deep faith lent a lot of wisdom to his words.
It wasn’t long before he asked me what my faith was. I was honest — I told him I was brought up in the Christian faith but had lost it. He looked at me through the driving mirror and said, “Every man…
